Mould Remediation
Mould does not affect everyone. However, educators emphasis that it can be dangerous to the immune deficient, notably infants, the elderly and the sick. Moulds are toxins and some research has indicated that these toxins can affect the nervous system, or impede the function of the frontal cortex, the part of the brain that plays a part in impulse control, memory, problem solving, sexual behaviour, socialisation and spontaneity (Brown Study Finds Link Between Depression and Household Mould).
Moulds reproduce by tiny spores; the spores are invisible to the naked eye and float through outdoor and indoor air. Mould can grow indoors when something as simple as mould spores land on surfaces that are wet for several hours. There are many types of mould, but none of them will grow without a source of moisture.
Mould growth is often visible, it may appear cottony, velvety, granular, or leathery and have varied colours of white, grey, brown, black, yellow, or green and will have a distinct mould odour – usually musty. Symptoms of mould infestation can be respiratory problems (wheezing and difficulty to breath), nasal and sinus congestion, eye irritation (burning, watery, red, blurry vision, and light sensitivity), dry, hacking coughs, sore throats, nose and throat irritation, shortness of breath, central nervous System problems (headaches, memory problems, and mood swings), aches and pains, and possible fevers.
Mould remediation is very specialised. Not all carpet cleaners offer a water damage restoration service and not many restorers offer a mould remediation service. Training for this type of work is very specific as, if poorly performed, there are health risks for both the customer and remediator.
PHJ are qualified mould remediation specialists. They have the equipment, training and staffing to make a mould contaminated structure safe for occupancy.
Time Frame
Mould remediation work is very labour intensive. The time required to complete a job has many influences and each job can vary in length of time to complete.
Client Requirement
Mould contamination can only be brought about by the presence of moisture. It is imperative that the source of moisture is identified and removed before mould remediation work is commenced.
Special Considerations
Is the house safe for occupancy prior to and during remediation work? In many cases, it will be necessary for the occupants to vacate premises until work is completed.
